Caregiving for those with Dementia
Our Person-Centred approach is a vital element of our care for people with dementia.
This progressive illness, referred to as brain failure, means that brain cells die faster than they do in the normal ageing process.
Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies and any combination of these result memory loss and the inability to function normally.
Common symptoms include:
- Decline in memory
- Reduced reasoning
- Communication difficulties
- Loss of skills
Our dedicated approach in such cases is to provide the individual with Person Centred care so as to improve their life experience.
When caring for dementia patients we ensure we do so with compassion, ensuring always that we are fully engaged so as to maintain their dignity and to keep them safe.
It is very important, when supporting an individual with dementia, to help them keep their:
- Identity
- Self-esteem
- Self-worth
- Individuality
- Enjoyment
Training and experience are at the heart of providing such support and are key elements of the Filipino Caregivers ethos.
